Entrance Hallway Stove Grate
Entrance Hallway Stove Grate Probably By Alexander Brodie Late 18th or very early 19th century.
The attribution to Brodie comes from a combination of, the ability of the grate to moved forward allowing any ash to drop through onto the hearth, in combination with the deeper wrought framework to the back which is in place to allow the vent at the top back of the fireback to move, a process intended to then suck the ash up and away into the flue. The frame has a 1/8” recess to the back of both sides and top in order to allow a set of slips to sit into.
